Motorized Killjoy Turrets, Valorant

Combined with our life-sized Gekko replica, Valorant fans attending the first tournament of 2024 at Riot Games’ esports campus also got the chance to see some in-game hardware with our replicas of Killjoy’s Turret! We created two copies of this angry little tripod, matched to in-game scale and paint style. Measuring just under 3′ tall, they also house a stepper motor drive system that allows the upper turret to scan left to right in random patterns that give an added level of realism to these sculptures. Base sections are heavy for stability and the upper and lower halves separate for ease of shipping to multiple events.

The exterior aesthetic components are installed over welded steel and aluminum frames for strength and durability. Both turret upper sections are fiberglass castings, which save on weight to keep motor strain low and reduce noise from the drive system. The intended use for the turrets is to provide extra fanfare to Valorant esports tournaments, living on stages and alongside audience experiences for multiple events. Since they’ll live a life on the road, each turret is designed in components that can be disassembled for maintenance and repair. All three legs are removable, the entire drive system can be swapped out if necessary, and the code in the turret motor controller is easily updated to allow for different movement patterns!
