The Summoner’s Cup, League of Legends

The Summoner’s Cup for the League of Legends Worlds tournament is possibly the most well known trophy in esports. With a tournament dating back to 2011 and a trophy lineage starting in 2014, the Summoner’s Cup has evolved through three iterations in its 12 year life cycle, culminating the designs seen here!

For the relaunch of this iconic design, Riot Games came to us with a list of requirements. The new trophy had to merge the classic style of the original Summoner’s Cup with the sleek modern shapes of the 2022 redesign. It also needed to conform to new safety standards: no sharp edges, lower center of gravity, and fabricated to be as lightweight as possible. We created three final trophies to these specifications to be shown both at the Worlds Finals and around the world as promotional events needed them. Carbon fiber castings allowed us to fabricate this piece at 28″ tall, fully plated in rhodium and 24k gold, to weigh just over 22lbs!

Supplemental to the Summoner’s Cup itself was an original MVP trophy design as well as multiple team copies for the annual winners. These duplicates are identical in design, but scaled to only 24″ in total height.

Each Summoner’s Cup is an assembly of over seventy separate parts. More than fifteen artists were involved in ther creation. It was an honor and a pinnacle project to be involved in. Thank you Riot Games for trusting us with such an important piece of your history!
