Chandra Chocobo, MTG & FF
Wizards of the Coast launched their biggest ever card game partnership in mid 2025 with the massively anticipated Final Fantasy/Magic: The Gathering sets. Having partnered with WoTC to bring several of their iconic characters to life in the past, we were asked to bring a new mashup mascot to life for the debut of the card sets at PAX East 2025. A 5-foot tall Chocobo from the Final Fantasy universe would wander the halls dressed as the Planeswalker Chandra, pulled straight from the Magic: The Gathering Arena game, meeting attendees and gifting them with special PAX-only swag.
Dubbed “Chocobo, Awakened Inferno” at the event, our fiery little chicken was digitally sculpted in-house to be as robust on the show floor as she is charming to take a selfie with. She’s comprised of fiberglass-reinforced SLA prints over a steel skeleton. 50lbs of sand in her feet make sure to offset the weight of her massive noggin! In order to move around convention show floors, her platform hides four large caster wheels for easy motion. Urethane paints with thick clearcoat ensure she can handle the scuffs and bumps of the show floor, as well as the occasional eager fan interaction.
Of special consideration to our team were Chandra’s eyes. These are four separate cast components, dyed and stacked to give the iris depth and realism. Her slightly crossed eye look came out perfect and was a huge hit at PAX. She’s since gone on to attend several MagicCon events, and spends her off hours on display at Wizards HQ!
